Health Matters

Most agencies that offer support to migrants don't discriminate against those using their services. But services can unintentionally seem very unwelcoming to gay or bisexual men.

There is often an assumption that service users are heterosexual. This means that posters, resource materials, registration questionnaires and the language that is used only reflects straight people's lives and circumstances. This can make gay men feel excluded and unwilling to either access services or be open about their sexuality, which can leave them more vulnerable.

How we can help

To help your organisation be as inclusive and welcoming of diversity as possible, we have put together two resources for you to download.

The first is some guidelines to help you enhance the way you provide services for gay and bisexual men.

The second is an audit tool with questions to help you assess how inclusive your organisation already is and whether or not changes could be made.

Leaflet for users

We have also produced a small leaflet for gay and bisexual service users. This provides information about HIV and sexual health, as well as other useful information to help them live successfully and safely in 'Gay Britain'.

This is available in six languages: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and English. You can either download the leaflet from this website or order free copies from our Health Promotion team.
