Providing support

You can help service users who are new to England and Wales to live and work here successfully and safely by providing information on a range of issues. This can reduce their risks of getting infected with HIV and suffering poor sexual health. We can help you to provide that support.

Resource pack

Scene but Unseen: Assisting Migrant Gay Men is a resource pack that you can download to help you provide support.

The pack is divided into different sections. Some sections are complete, as the information is the same wherever you are in England and Wales. Other sections have templates for you to fill out, so the information can be tailored to your location.

The pack also includes an extensive contacts section to help you to signpost service users to other organisations and services.

What's in the pack

Healthcare matters
The healthcare section explains which category of migrant is entitled to what healthcare services. It includes health and sexual health contacts.

Immigration issues
This section explains who can give immigration advice and how to find a good adviser. It includes specialist advice for people living with HIV and those seeking asylum.

Welfare benefits and emergency funding
The welfare and funding section explains which category of migrant is entitled to which benefits. It also provides details of sources of emergency funding.

Work and employment rights
The employment section includes information to help you advise service users on work-related problems, including rights and exploitation, as well as finding work.

A place to stay: emergency housing
This section provides details of how to find somewhere to stay in an emergency, such as homelessness.

Learning English
This includes a guide to different types of English courses and how to find them.

Translation and interpretation services
Service users may not be able to speak very good English. This section provides details of how to find interpreters.

Specialist migration organisation contacts
While they may not be specialists in assisting gay or bisexual migrants, organisations that work with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers are an excellent source of information and assistance.
Here are the contact details of some of Britain's biggest migration organisations.
